What does

therapy look like?

I conduct individualized therapy sessions targeting skills in speech, language and reading in the comfortable environment of your own home, or online via a secure, HIPAA-compliant telepractice platform. Every therapy session is tailored to each individual student's needs. I provide an intervention plan as a “roadmap” for therapy when I begin working with a student, and this plan is continually adjusted based on each student's progress.

Sessions often look different for each student, depending on age, needs, and learning style-- from more structured lessons, to incidental learning, to play-based therapy.  I love using books in therapy, so they will often make an appearance!  I follow the mantra that “it’s about the process, not the product”-- I’m much less interested in how the craft turned out than how many new vocabulary words your child used while making it!

As the owner and only speech-language pathologist at SpeakChatRead, your child will always work with me, and you will always interact directly with me! This allows for consistency, which promotes greater progress. I provide services that are:

  • Individualized: I will formulate a plan that is specific to your child!  No cookie-cutter plans here.

  • Evidence-based: I develop and implement intervention plans using the three components of evidence-based practice. See more information about evidence-based practice (EBP) on ASHA’s website here

  • Family-centered: I aim to provide services that target the skills and strategies that are most important to you and your child. You will be involved in every step of the process, from the evaluation, to therapy, and finally dismissal!

TELEPRACTICE

I am able to see students for evaluations and therapy via a secure, HIPAA-compliant telepractice platform!  This is a great option for many students to access therapy from home. All that is needed on your end is an internet connection, audio/video capabilities, and some adult support for the younger kiddos!  The research is ongoing, but telepractice has been shown to be as effective as in-person therapy.  Click here for more information regarding this research from The Informed SLP.  Depending on your child’s needs, we can also use a hybrid model that involves a combination of in-person and online services.
